Cardiac transplant 1/2. Donor car, fitting & Piping

We had a great garage day on saturday and got a lot done. As you may have heard we will “Loan” the engine and gearbox from the w123 to the new w203 to save time. The w123 won’t be needed in the spring months so we will have more time to fix a new engine and gearbox for that later. Teemu had pushed in the w123 in the garage on friday night to let i melt for i while. The poor race car was literally buried under the snow. On saturday we carried out the w203 to get room on the lift for the w123. The engine was taken of so quickly we didn’t even get a photo of it before it was on the ground.

After heavy resistance by Teemu the mechanics decided that the engine should be washed. After a some more discussion and mild threats we also decided Teemu would be the one to clean it, which he did constantly moaning about it being clean enough.

While Teemu was busy cleaning the engine we pushed the w123 back outside now without engine and drive-train. Teemu was done washing and lifted the w203 back on the car lift to start fitting fuel and coolant pipelines with Emil and Magnus.

To get the engine to fit in the w203 we had to change the oil sump and because of this, we had to change the oil pump. This was a job for one of our few real car mechanics, Anton assisted by our team manger Hannu (Teemus father). While every one else was working hard I drank coffee and filmed some shots for a Making of video-series we may make if we can find the time.

We’ll come back to you with some new post then now we’ll end with a quote from Teemu: “Take care and even tough its slippery, try to not drift…”    If you dont believe me check out my Facebook, all my vehicles are in ditches or in some tree.”
